Rigo Davilla Celebrating 25 Years of membership with EST Kavin Griffin and UBC General Secretary-Treasurer Jason Engels

Rigo Davilla Celebrates 25 Years

The Southern Regional Council of Carpenters celebrated member Rigo Davila’s 25th anniversary at its recent staff and delegate meeting.

Davila’s story is certainly one of celebration and one of overcoming hardship. Starting as an apprentice, he said he had to be bold while also responsible.

“Not easy for sure. It’s been hard,” he started. “(You) always have (to have) your feet on the ground.”

Davila credits the union and the mentors he started with for his success. They taught him all the “tricks of the trade,” which he continues to pass on to his fellow apprentices every day.

He’s also excited about the recent merger of the SRCC and the expansion of our membership.

“Back then, it could be hard for some places to accept changes,” said Rigo, “But now we’re going to be open for the new generation.”

Davila also expressed gratitude for his last few decades with the union. The union’s benefits allowed his family, including his three children, to flourish.

“I’m proud of my [daughter’s] graduation from Georgia State,” said Davila, which he credits to the SRCC’s funding, benefits, and pension programs.

Davila is excited about the union’s future, the changes to come, and what the SRCC has already accomplished since the merger. His time in the SRCC has been memorable.

“One of the highlights of my career has been working in the training center and helping out the brotherhood in the best way you can,” said Davila. “You change a lot of lives.”

We were honored to recognize his commitment to our mission and look forward to more of his many milestones to come. Davilla reminds union members just how far they’ve come with their membership.

“Never forget where you’re coming from.”
