As part of the nationwide UBC campaign to protest against tax fraud in the construction industry, the Southern Regional Council of Carpenters held demonstrations in Atlanta and Miami.
On Wednesday, April 15, members and staff of the Southern Regional Council of Carpenters rallied in Miami to stand up against tax fraud in the construction industry. The demonstration took place outside of the construction site for the Nu Stadium at Miami Freedom Park and the new location for Miami City Hall.
On Friday, April 17, Members of the Southern Regional Council of Carpenters, labor leaders, and elected officials and candidates rallied against tax fraud at Liberty Plaza across from the Georgia Capitol Building.
The event was part of a series of international days of action by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters across the United States and Canada protesting the costs that tax fraud inflicts on construction workers, our businesses, our communities, states, and nations.
Across the United States, tax fraud committed by construction contractors costs states and federal treasuries $10 billion a year.
Crooked contractors are stealing work away from law-abiding businesses and their employees. Taxpayers are shortchanged of the revenue needed to support first responders and improve schools.
