Candidates endorsed by the Southern Regional Council of Carpenters posted strong results in recent primary elections across several states, signaling continued momentum for leaders who prioritize workforce training, public education, and access to skilled-trades careers.

After many decades in operation, Georgia Power Plant Scherer in Juliette, Georgia, transitioned to a fully union-run maintenance contract. Beginning in January 2025, Georgia Power partnered with Day & Zimmerman to handle the daily maintenance contract for the fourth-largest electric generating plant in the United States. 

The Southern District Training Trust Fund will hold an interior systems and scaffold combine in Nashville, Tennessee, on March 21. This one-day event is designed for individuals with or without prior experience in the trade who are seeking employment in the construction industry. 

SRCC staff educated Georgia legislators on construction industry tax fraud during the Working Families Caucus luncheon held in Atlanta Feb. 26. By sponsoring this event, the SRCC had the opportunity to talk with policymakers about an ongoing problem that has allowed companies to misclassify workers and win contracts by underbidding.
